Parsnip is delighted to wake up to a snow-covered veggie patch, and wastes no time playing with the snow. But then he throws a snowball at what he thinks is a horrible monster! Scared to bits, he runs to find Big Parsnip, but is reassured when he finds out it is only a snowman. Parsnip then has the joy of making his very own Snow Parsnip. |

But when Albert makes a huge mess and then leaves Cabbage to take the blame, Cabbage is not so happy about his new friendship. Luckily Albert sees that he has got Cabbage into trouble and owns up to his mistake.

Leek doesn't like the rain falling on his leaves, which is not a good thing when you're one of the only things left in the veggie patch in rainy March. He searches fruitlessly for somewhere to hide from the rain, but all the good places are used up by other people who are really enjoying the rain and mud. Eventually the rain stops and he realises that the rain has actually cleaned and shined up his leaves.
Value linked to the story: Humility is accepting others and letting go of your own pride. Rhubarb is all geared up for a fab trip with his friends to see some spring daffodils and is crushed when he gets a terrible cold and has to stay in bed and miss out. He keeps trying to convince himself and Big Rhubarb that he is well enough to go, but he's not fooling anyone with his runny nose and coughing fits. Eventually he gives in and rests, and is rewarded when his friends bring some daffodils to his sick bed to visit him!
Value linked to the story: Caring is thinking about, and looking after, ourselves and others. Lettuce is entranced when Pea tells her that she has seen a butterfly, and wants to find one too. Only problem is, she doesn't know what they look like. She follows the clues, but finds all kinds of objects with similar descriptions, but none of them are butterflies. In the end when a butterfly lands on her nose, she can add up all the clues and realises that she has finally found one!
Value linked to the story: Hope is believing you can achieve your goals, even if there are obstacles. "I liked that Lettuce thought that the bees and birds and flowers were butterflies! But then she finds a real butterfly." Madeleine, aged 8. It's a horrible feeling when everyone forgets your birthday, but it's even worse when no one has got any time to spend with you on your special day. Strawberry is so disappointed that all her friends are too busy and that her birthday has slipped all their minds. So she is thrilled when it turns out they had been planning a lovely surprise party for her after all!

But then they surprise her with lots of presents!" Elsie, aged 8 Tomato is a lot of fun, but not very considerate. He knocks his friends over, ruins their hard work and breaks their toys, but he really doesn't want to say sorry. Only when Pepper bumps him over too and then apologises, does Tomato realise that the word sorry is very helpful. He makes amends with all his friends and finds out that saying sorry helps both people to feel better.
Value linked to the story: Friendship is a two way street - the only way to find a true friend is to be one. Baby Courgette is just lovely as he is, but he doesn't think so. All he wants is to be big like the big marrows. He asks loads of people for advice on how to make plants grow, and follows all of their tips, but when he hasn't zoomed up metres in mere minutes he is disheartened. Then Big Courgette explains that what you have inside is more important than how big you are, and Baby Courgette puts his worrying energy into more fun things instead.
Value linked to the story: Patience is accepting that the right time is not always 'right now'. Blackberry is very concerned that she will just never get enough sun to ripen and turn black. Although she moves all over the garden to the best sunbathing spots, she keeps being thwarted by people getting in the way of the sun and shading her out. Eventually she realises that she has managed to start to ripen and is beginning to turn a darker colour.
Value linked to the story:Tolerance is accepting myself and others even when we make mistakes. Poor old pumpkin. The veggie patch gardener has only grown one of him and he has no one to play with. The other veg are all happy to play with him but he's not able to do the things they can do and he feels really lonely. Until someone spots him sadly rolling away and everyone decides that rolling looks the most fun of all. Pumpkin learns to focus on what you CAN do and not what you CAN'T do.

Madeleine, aged 8 Pear used to have a lovely leaf on her head, but she has lost it. Her friends help her look all over the garden, but all they find is a selection of gardening bits and pieces. Pear is gutted and gives up but her friends cleverly think of a more creative solution - they make her a lovely new leaf using all the bits they found instead!
Value linked to the story: Co-operation is working as a team to use everyone's best skills. Apple sneaks out of the fruit storage shed to get some exercise and is amazed to find a little shell with an identical apple inside. She doesn't realise the shell is a mirror and the apple is her reflection and gets very cross that the visitor won't speak to her. But Big Apple explains what a reflection is and Apple then has a lot of fun watching her mirror image copying her every move.
