Christmas Plant Pot Gifts

If you want to allow your children to give gifts to other people (their kindergarten teacher, or Grandma) but don't want to spend lots of money on them, or if they want to use their own money, you have to get creative.

And handmade gifts always go down a treat.

So why not try this cute gold Christmassy plant pots from
Here Come The Girls? The pots are simply painted up and decorated with ribbons, and you could try the Santa plant labels too.

Rebecca and her girls plant some little bulbs in each one, which is a sweet idea. You can find lovely pictures of the different stages and her gorgeous arty girls here.

If you would like some instructions on planting bulbs for teacher, there are some more detailed instructions about the gardening end of things on Dawn Isaac's Little Green Fingers blog here. She plants up narcissi paperwhites - gorgeous white bulbs for scented flowers through Christmas.

Colouring Fruit and Vegetables We found these great food colouring sheets on Today I Ate A Rainbow. Children need to find out about different colours of foods and why they are important for our health, and grouping them by colour in these sheets can help them to recognise fruit and vegetables by matching what colours they are. The example in the picture below are all 'Red' - strawberries, cherries, apples, raspberries and tomatoes, but there are sheets for other colour groups ...

Learn How To Use Chopsticks Teach your kids how to use chopsticks with cotton wool balls, this is a handy and useful skill when eating Chinese foods. Kids are always fascinated by the method of holding and using these sticks, so why not create an opportunity for them to practice. This activity can be used at any time, instead of your kids struggling through the meal while the food is getting cold. We found this on Play based Learning. This particular activity using...

Building A Plastic Bottle Tower

Building A Plastic Bottle Tower

Building a Plastic Bottle Tower If you're short on space but want to grow some veggies or herbs, this is a great way to fit a load of growing room in vertically by recycling old soda bottles. The beauty of it is that the watering system on the top makes it very easy to take care of, and therefore great for growing with children, if they miss a water or two it is less likely to be a disaster. This video from Willem Van Cotthem, which is essentially a slideshow, shows you...
