Resources

These pages are a mixture of our own resources, and those we have found from other people and organisations. Some resources here have been provided by practitioners and parents who have tried and tested them, but you will have to assess for yourself the benefits for your own children and whether it will meet the guidelines you are working with.

Some resources are created by food industries. While they are not allowed to promote intentionally inaccurate information, they will naturally wish to promote their product as the most important part of the diet. However some of the resources they provide are very good when used in context. Wherever I am aware that a resource is industry sponsored I will say so, and you can exercise your common sense in evaluating it.

St Patrick's Day Green Monster Smoothie

St Patrick's Day Green Monster Smoothie

If you're wanting to do something green and fun but healthy for a St Patrick's Day after school snack, why not try this Green Monster smoothie, created by Brenda Thompson for the Food With Kid Appeal website, which aims to share practical healthy meal ideas which kids will actually go for.

This recipe uses... believe it or not... spinach! You wouldn't think a spinach smoothie could be acceptable to kids, but the overripe bananas and yoghurt make it sweet and creamy.

Food With Kid Appeal is a US site, so the recipe uses cup measures, but if you don't have cup measures, I have reproduced the ingredient list here with the metric alongside.

Happy St Patrick's Day!

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups / 375 ml skimmed milk
1/2 cup / 125 ml plain yoghurt
2 very ripe bananas
2 cups loosely packed spinach (about 50 g)
1 tablespoon honey
