The Foodies / Resources
These pages are a mixture of our own resources, and those we have found from other people and organisations. Some resources here have been provided by practitioners and parents who have tried and tested them, but you will have to assess for yourself the benefits for your own children and whether it will meet the guidelines you are working with.
Some resources are created by food industries. While they are not allowed to promote intentionally inaccurate information, they will naturally wish to promote their product as the most important part of the diet. However some of the resources they provide are very good when used in context. Wherever I am aware that a resource is industry sponsored I will say so, and you can exercise your common sense in evaluating it.

Planting Potatoes In A Nursery School12/01/2010 12:33:00 Planting Potatoes At Nottingham Nursery School
Nottingham Nursery School is a purpose built nursery education and daycare facility in Radford in Nottingham. As part of the set up of their garden they insisted on creating a large planting area, which they call "The Allotment".
They have lots of plans to develop the garden but for this first year they are allowing the children to explore the new space without the pressure of having to grow lots of new things. Radford is an inner city area which is highly built up and many households have no gardens, so lots of the children at the nursery have no access to private garden space to play in.
They did decide to plant some potatoes this year as it is a good introduction to planting and helps to break up the soil. In the fortnight before the film visit, the children learned about chitting the potatoes, and did some observational drawings of the seed potatoes.
Here is a short film about their planting session.
If you want to plant your own potatoes, you should definitely make use of the brilliant resources on the Potato Council's Potatoes for Schools website. The site is at http://www.potatoesforschools.org.uk/
