Children's Food and Health

What is the connection between the food we give to our children and their health?

At The Foodies, we believe that food and health are inseparable. Our ancestors have always known that food could be our fuel, our poison and our medicine, and until very recently we have had a very connected relationship with the food we eat. The evidence that food can help or hurt us is quite compelling and I have been adding information about this to the Grown Ups section in the resources files.

When they are adults, our children may choose to neglect their health. There is nothing we can do about that, and they must go their own way. But while they are still children, there are two reasons we should care about their food.

Firstly, as responsible adults we should give their growing bodies what they need to the best of or abilities. We would not feed them illegal drugs, or let them smoke, or starve them. That would be irresponsible. We should treat the food we feed them with the same respect, since it can help or harm them just as much.

Secondly, if children grow up in an environment where healthy thoughtful food is seen as normal, they are less likely to choose an unhealthy lifestyle when they are old enough to choose for themselves.

It's a lovely way to present a boiled egg as an Easter treat. Kids eat so much sweet food over Easter, you need to make sure they are getting a little protein in to stop their blood sugar constantly rocketing up and down. So if you're having an Easter themed meal, you could put some of these in the mix. If you'...
