Xylem Water Movement Experiment

This is a really great, easy experiment from
mslaura on Flickr, it shows how water moves through the leaf using coloured dye. The experiment is aimed at older children, but the xylem (tubes that carry the water in leaves) are all criss-crossed through the leaves which make a beautiful pattern that younger children will enjoy.

Children can compare the output from different squares and they can take full part in the planning. Older children can do lots of maths comparisons between crops and spac...

This video from Willem Van Cotthem, which is essentially a slideshow, shows you...

Why not try this fun Christmas themed project from Dawn Isaac over at Little Green Fingers. It's a variation on the traditional cress heads project using a yoghurt pot, but with the twist that your kids can have fun making t...

Underground Animal Activities

Underground Animal Activities Teaching kids about animals that live underground could at first seem like a messy task, but by doing these activities with them it enables them to learn about insects and other underground creatures whilst having fun at the same time! We found these great ideas over at Fantastic Fun and Learning. The first activity uses toy bugs to get kids started, rather than digging up the garden to find real underground creatures. This underground small wo...
