Growing A Pizza Garden

This is a great article from Sixty Second Parent, it gives a proper lesson plan on how to use maths, science, human geography and literacy. The children have to measure out and shape their pizza shaped garden using everyday bits of equipment, so the setting up and planting uses lots of skills. They then have to tend the plants and finally the fun bit... Harvesting their crop from a pizza shaped garden to make their pizza!

In cooler parts of the country tomatoes and peppers can be more difficult to grow, so you should consider buying varieties made especially for outdoors, or perhaps swap peppers for a courgette plant. But tomatoes, peppers and courgettes all need to be started off inside, so either buy small plants to begin with, or plant them inside a few weeks before your project starts.

It's a lovely idea and the instructions are very thoughtful ad comprehensive.

Then use red pizza sauce for the hat, and cheese topping for the face - you ca...

The site uses pre-made pizza dough but you can of course make your own, I always make mine in a bread machine. You can find the recipe here. ...

Ladybird Pizzas This fun and easy recipe is on Rachael Ray's fab kids food site www.yum-o.org The recipe uses kids fascination with ladybirds to make this pizza, using pesto and an English muffin which makes it very quick and easy. You can obviously use the basic idea and change the toppings, as long as the basic red-background-and-spots idea still works. Click here to go to the original recipe. ...
