Make a lovely lavender bag

This is such a simple idea and perfect if you want to make the most of the lavender in your garden. We found it over on the RHS website, which has lots of activity ideas for families and children.

Simply collect the lavender at the end of summer, leave it to dry out and then make your lavender bags. They are ideal gifts and, with just a little help, can be easily made by the kids.

You can find the instuctions here.

Celery Stalk Rose Prints This is a lovely idea I saw on Maureen Cracknell's Homemade site. It's a cute thing to do next time you have a recipe which needs a whole head of celery in one go and therefore you cut off the stump rather than peeling individual stalks, or you can do the same with a head of crunchy lettuce. Bird's Nest Easter Cakes Every childhood should include making an Easter egg nest cake, and there are various traditional versions using shredded wheat, cornflakes and other breakfast cereals. We found this version on Oscar's Lunch youtube channel- it is a cute little time lapse video running you through the steps to make it in less than a minute. There is also a proper recipe and instructions over on the delightful Oscar's Lunch blog, which you can find here....

Colouring Fruit and Vegetables We found these great food colouring sheets on Today I Ate A Rainbow. Children need to find out about different colours of foods and why they are important for our health, and grouping them by colour in these sheets can help them to recognise fruit and vegetables by matching what colours they are. The example in the picture below are all 'Red' - strawberries, cherries, apples, raspberries and tomatoes, but there are sheets for other colour groups ...

Learn How To Use Chopsticks Teach your kids how to use chopsticks with cotton wool balls, this is a handy and useful skill when eating Chinese foods. Kids are always fascinated by the method of holding and using these sticks, so why not create an opportunity for them to practice. This activity can be used at any time, instead of your kids struggling through the meal while the food is getting cold. We found this on Play based Learning. This particular activity using...
