Bean's Vegetable Garden

This is a great matching game for the very youngest children.

It's a good one for little kids, because the three levels allow children to gradually increase their skill. In the first level, children just have to hover over the bushes to find the vegetables for dinner. In the second level they have to match up three pairs of vegetables, but are shown what is hiding in the bushes for a few seconds at the beginning so they only have to remember which one is where. In the final level they have to find four matching pairs by trial and error.

So it is a good way to introduce children gradually to a matching memory game, but using a veggie patch, so they have to recognise and remember what different vegetables look like.

The example in the picture below are all 'Red' - strawberries, cherries, apples, raspberries and tomatoes, but there are sheets for other colour groups ...

Square Foot Gardening

Square Foot Gardening Guide Square Foot gardening is a system which was developed by an American engineer called Mel Bartholomew, and it is a great way to fit lots of vegetables into a small space. It is also great for schools because it makes it much easier to build maths and English activities into the garden. Children can compare the output from different squares and they can take full part in the planning. Older children can do lots of maths comparisons between crops and spac...

Building a Plastic Bottle Tower If you're short on space but want to grow some veggies or herbs, this is a great way to fit a load of growing room in vertically by recycling old soda bottles. The beauty of it is that the watering system on the top makes it very easy to take care of, and therefore great for growing with children, if they miss a water or two it is less likely to be a disaster. This video from Willem Van Cotthem, which is essentially a slideshow, shows you...

Farm Animal Matching Worksheet

Farm Animal Matching Worksheet

23/07/2013

Farm Animal Matching Worksheet This matching game teaches kids about where their food or other materials come from.  Children have to draw a line between the two columns to match the farm animal with the food or material it produces so they have to work out which food comes from which animal. Early writers can then also learn and label the names of each animal and food. The worksheet has two sides with seven different animals and foods. We found it over on the ...
