Growing Plants Interactive Game

This is a really simple game aimed at teaching children what a plant needs in order to grow.

It's a BBC Schools Science game. It's quite tricky and only really suitable for the older age group - 5 plus - as you have to keep an eye on several factors, and pull levers on time to react. However it's a good game and requires a bit of trial and error to get it right.

You can play the game here.

Children can compare the output from different squares and they can take full part in the planning. Older children can do lots of maths comparisons between crops and spac...

Building a Plastic Bottle Tower If you're short on space but want to grow some veggies or herbs, this is a great way to fit a load of growing room in vertically by recycling old soda bottles. The beauty of it is that the watering system on the top makes it very easy to take care of, and therefore great for growing with children, if they miss a water or two it is less likely to be a disaster. This video from Willem Van Cotthem, which is essentially a slideshow, shows you...

Christmas Elf Cress Heads

Christmas Elf Cress Heads Ok so it's cold and miserable outside and you may not want to be out there with your kids gardening (especially after a few too many mince pies and one too many ports.... ahem) but it doesn't mean you can't do any gardening at all. Why not try this fun Christmas themed project from Dawn Isaac over at Little Green Fingers. It's a variation on the traditional cress heads project using a yoghurt pot, but with the twist that your kids can have fun making t...
