Gardeners' Calendar

This is a fantastic resource which helps you to know what jobs to do in the garden at different times of the year.

You tell the tool what plants you are growing, from a list of categories including: trees, bulbs, fruit, vegetables, lawn and many more. You choose those which are applicable to you from a little drop down box at the bottom which says "choose your gardening tips". Once you have chosen what you're interested in, it will give you any relevant gardening tips daily only for the things you have chosen.

This is brilliant as you don't end up having to wade through tips about pruning your clematis if you only grow tomatoes, or reminders about lawn care if you have a patio with pots.

You can find the tool here.

P.S. This is in the BBC archives so they no longer update it, but it still works fine!

Egg Herb Garden This is a fun way to grow a small herb garden, which would make a sweet gift from a child to a cook in their family. Large plants will obviously need transplanting - this one features a tomato which would need potting on. But chives, basil, thyme, parsley,...

The example in the picture below are all 'Red' - strawberries, cherries, apples, raspberries and tomatoes, but there are sheets for other colour groups ...

Frozen Grape Lollies

Frozen Grape Lollies (Popsicles) We found this cool and simple idea on the lovely Make and Takes website. It's incredibly simple - basically a grape fruit kebab - but by freezing it, you make a sweet treat which can replace an iced lolly. The site uses detailed photo instructions on what to do, showing the children making their own popsicles so your children can look at the article and do this themselves without much adult help. You can find the recipe h...
