These pages are a mixture of our own resources, and those we have found from other people and organisations. Some resources here have been provided by practitioners and parents who have tried and tested them, but you will have to assess for yourself the benefits for your own children and whether it will meet the guidelines you are working with.

Some resources are created by food industries. While they are not allowed to promote intentionally inaccurate information, they will naturally wish to promote their product as the most important part of the diet. However some of the resources they provide are very good when used in context. Wherever I am aware that a resource is industry sponsored I will say so, and you can exercise your common sense in evaluating it.

Agri Aware "Dig In" farming teaching modules

 

Agri aware is a useful website set up to promote and educate about farming in Ireland.

On their website they have provided e-book versions of four modular activity books which they have created for primary schools.

Each module has activities about different animals, healthy eating and aspects of farming.

 

They are pitched at different levels - module 1 will be suitable for foundation stage and early KS1, some of module 2 will be suitable for KS1. Most of modules 3 and 4 may be too sophisticated in content for under 8s, but some may be useful. In all four modules the information given is clear and well illustrated and there are good, very accessible activity sheets at the back of each module.

The booklets cover cattle, sheep, pigs, poultry, cereals, fruit and veg. In each they talk about what products they provide, where they live, what they eat etc.

 

The activity sheets in modules 1 and 2 use colouring and small lettering and spelling answers, matching words to pictures (and matching picture to picture, drawing, mazes etc.
