Instructions for kids' activities are always in purple boxes.

If you are doing any kind of food exploration with children, you may need a list of adjectives to help them to get the ball rolling past 'yucky' and 'yummy'.

Here is a downloadable list you can print off and use to get them focussing on HOW food tastes rather than just whether they initially like it or not.

Children can understand that it is ok to not like something, but being able to say what it is like is a great skill.

Here is the list of food words:

You can find another longer list of food adjectives (including a useful sub-list of words for when a child really wants to just say something meaning yummy rather than describe the flavour), at this blog post from Hybrid Rasta Mama.

And if you're really interested in exploring foods, check out my 90 minute workshop on building familiarity with food which includes a printable of adjectives to help with all the steps to eating, starting from how foods look, through feel and smell, and then to taste.

The workshop is £7.49 and is at www.thefoodiesbooks.com/food-familiarity-course/

But if you're just wanting something quick for taste descriptions then either download this pdf or check out the linked blog post for more to get you started.
